Telepsychiatry for Rural Elderly

Presented by a nurse practitioner practicing telepsychiatry in an outpatient setting, this webinar reviews the need for mental health treatment for the elderly, especially in rural settings and nursing homes. It also discusses the barriers to care in these settings, how telepsychiatry can help bridge the gap and providing quality care via telepsychiatry.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the factors that attribute to a high suicide rate among the rural elderly population.
  • Identify ways to overcome barriers associated with mental health in the context of rural culture.
  • Apply telehealth standards to your practice and acknowledge the benefits and challenges for both Patient and Clinician.
  • Understand how to safely prescribe the elderly rural population considering several factors.
